the lyrics to this song are amazing. the way they are written from the perspective of young naive kid.and i think that the people who dont like this song really dont get it, they just take it at face value and say its stupid

I don't understand why all the critics hate this song so much. Granted, the lyrics are awful (like a "diet" version of Runaway Train) and the guy sounds like he's belching them, but the music and the chorus are glorious. If they had a different singer/lyricist (I'm thinking a Neil Young type) this would be among my favourite songs.
