Floyd albums post Waters did not "move" forward. There are the famous stories about how DGs Floyd had to re record them as they were not Floyd enough "a poor copy". The Gilmour PF albums have never achieved that classic status that Floyd with RW did. I am sure this is not a coincidence- Waters was the key to Floyd and his feel runs right thru from DSothM, The wall, The F,Cut and course in Amused to Death. Its very evidently missing from OnanIsland.Go on,give Waters the credit he deserves !

have you looked at the stats for on an island and its' live versions? "isnt much at all" is a bit of a lie.

How is waters music advanced? youre giving waters too much credit. He was not Floyd alone. if you cant recall there were four members, five if you include syd. he obviously was a big force there but he was not floyd. if you listen to their solo work its easy to tell that. its just ridiculous to involve yourself in their problems and choose sides as it seems you have done.

"Nothing special" was maybe an exaggeration. I do play music, alot. I think music is an art form, just like painting. The main object is to describe or create a feeling. Roger is not only a poet, he´s an artist. Just as you said pink floyd was an "album band". Every other floyd album has a certain feeling and sound, and that´s what good music is about. David was a good musican with a talant for making ideas come to life. But the artist, the creator, the floyd, was Roger.

I dont understand your thinking. waters is the one who writes more simply musically. Do you play anything? advanced how? have you listened to On An Island? I dont know what youre talking about at all. I've loved the final cut, in fact i cant just listen to one song, i listen to the whole cd, like other floyd albums. i find it the other way around, i think on his own waters isnt as great. id rather not use your words "nothing special" because it's still better than anything else out there.

Pink Floyd is 3 different eras - Syd Barrett- Roger Waters- David Gilmour. And i think, that made Pink Floyd Legende. And of course we should not forget Richard Wright. "Rest in peace" to those who isn't among us any more, "gone yet, but not forgotten".

That´s exactly why waters is a better writer then gilmour, he write more advanced songs. Gilmours songs may be pleasant to the ear the first time you listen to them, but you get kinda bored after a while. The final cut has to be listen to a while before you like it. This is why they were a great team writing songs together. Rogers musically geniality with Davids simple and beautiful melodies. But on his own I think gilmour is nothing special.

the division bell was written perfectly. i would change nothing about it. in fact i think if waters hadn't left i think that album would reflected the internal conflicts in the band and wouldnt have been great. but the fact remains music is fucking music. lyrics are merely an company. waters is a great poet, but his musical sense is not great. dont get me wrong i love waters' music. but gilmour is much more pleasant to the ear, which is what music is about to begin with. |
