Wrong.Ska is a Jamaican dance hall music. Its been around since the 40s/50s, and it found its way to America via Jamaican immigrants to the UK. Ska is the basis for Reggae. Original ska was a dance music that was very heavily embodied with brass, Then came two tone which was a little more string and a little less brass and more punk style, but still heavy dance music. Then in the 80s came third wave which in itself has many sub-genres that are too numerous to name with 20 characters left.

Ska is not a derivative of punk.Ska exists since the 50's (desmond dekker, the skatalites etc).Ska set the basis for reggae and was later mixed with punk in the 70's, wich formed 2tone (Madness and the specials for example).In the late 80's, begin 90's the 3rd wave of ska started to come up (Save Ferris and Reel Big Fish etc).

... its ska... but ska in and of itself is a version of American punk rock... It's more about having fun than fighting the system which is why surfers like to listen to IT rather than normal punk.

This is Ska. A more 90's derivative of punk, but fishbone was making music like this a long freakin time ago. And yes, it is an awesome song, an 80's classic.
