Traditional Latin Mass filmed on Easter Sunday in 1941 at Our Lady of Sorrows church in Chicago. The film presents the ceremonies of the Missa Solemnis or Solemn High Mass in full detail with narration by then-Mgr. Fulton J. Sheen. Celebrated by Rev. J. R. Keane of the Order of Servites (hence the white habits and cowls), the ceremonies are accompanied by a full polyphonic choir, orchestra, and fifty Gregorian Chanters. The attention to detail in the ceremonies is impressive. Notice, for example, how the servers and ministers always take great care to move in order. Notice too that the servers are all almost identical in height. The Ordinary of the Mass, composed by Rev. Edwin V. Hoover, while pleasant in places, is very much a reflection of its time. The Proper on the other hand is timeless and sung admirably by a healthy throng of Seminarians from Mundelein, Illinois.Unfortunately due to size restrictions at Youtube around 20 mins have been cut from the original, however, I hope to upload a full version somewhere soon. In addition to the cuts I have added new captions and edited the opening credits which had deteriorated in the original. Other than this the film remains largely unchanged. Apologies for the error in the captions for the two parts of the Mass (software). The first part is of couse the Mass of the Catechumens, the second is the Mass of the Faithful.

To say that the Novus Ordo is not the Mass is ridiculous! Where is your trust reneeemily? I suggest you pray for the Church instead of saying stuff like this. That's why we have the Act of Perfect Contrition and Spiritual Communion. +God bless the Catholic Church!

yes you are right! no one has the authority to change the Liturgy but the Magisterium. the Tridentine Latin Mass was never abolished and was not replaced by the Ordinary Form of the Mass. Christ gave the Church authority and if the Church sees fit to have another form of the mass so be it as long as the essence of it is not changed. Let's pray for the Church and trust in our Lord. Let's not forget His promise that the gates of hell shall not prevail over His Church.+God bless!

"The Reformation was a devastation of England which was at the time when this event took place, the Happiest country, perhaps, that the world had ever seen; but Afterwards marched on Plundering, Devastating, & inflicting torments on the people, shedding their innocent blood;" "Abbeys, priories, Nunneries, Hospitals & other religious foundations confiscated by the Reformers and Jews, who brought to England the misery of pauperism through Usury" -William Cobbett

If you make an indictment of advanced capitalism--an economic never endorsed or blessed by Holy Mother Church--for leaving so many in hunger, no one will argue with you. However, this is not the forum for that. To say we are not justified in giving our first fruits to God and His Church is folly, as shown by Our Lord in St. Matthew, Ch. 26: after the woman poured ointment on Jesus' head, He said she did a good work because "the poor you have always with you." Pity the post-VII unlearned impiety.

Sorry but NO ONE has the authority to change the Mass in any way, shape or form. Pope Saint Pius Vs decree Quo Primum (1570) forbade in perpetuity any addition or changes whatsoever in the Roman Missal, (which is the Mass of All Times) under the penalty of incurring the wrath of Almighty God and the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul. Anyone who changes anything is automatically excommunicated. The truth is out there for anyone to find. I have several documents-email me if you're interested.

Well most of the people who elected benedict the 16th though were apart of religious life before vatican 2, therefore it would still be valid, yet maybe when benedict dies.. it could be like St. malachi predicted of him being the final pope.

How very true. He's so pathetic. Trying to lure those of us living our Faith at home to think he's bringing back the Latin Mass - its just the mass of Roncalli (John XXIII).
reneeemily (December 31, 1969 at 4:59 pm)
No. Because VII made a new religon, all the "priests", "bishops", etc. are not really ordained in the Catholic Faith, therefore no one could bring back the True Mass or elect a true pope. We have to live as Catholics did during the Reformation and the French Revolution - stay at home and keep the Faith as best as we can. God provides for these times, even for marriage without a priest (between two Catholics) with Canon Law 1098. May He give us the grace of final perseverance!
