A fantastic lecture by Christopher Hitchens about how atheism (and anti-theism) is not only a healthy belief system but a moral necessity. He talks about the very earthly nature of religion, the dangerous effect it is having on our world and the need for people to think for themselves.Have a drink and get comfortable because Hitchens is going to explain it all to you just brilliantly!Sewanee University, February 23, 2004

October 17 1969 8:00 am Montreal police go on strike.By 11:20 am the first bank is robbed, by 12:00 most shops are closed due to looting, a limousine service is burnt down by rival taxi drivers. 6 banks are robbed, 100 shops robbed, and 3 million dollars worth of damage. This was a predominantly Christian city. So how good was religion at enforcing morality? If tommorrow thethinkthank you became an atheist would you immediately become evil? Are you a better person than an atheist?

Two things for you to read about."PNAC"To google for source google this:"historycommons + dominance"Aaaaaand. Lets not forget that USA (as well as other western countries) support non-democratic Islamic regimes like Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Spreading democracy? Pffft!Second. In order to understand on how to beat terrorism. Google "Rand corp + terrorism".Only 7% of all terrorist groups are won with the military. In fact, studies show that the military is almost always counterproductive.

Atheists are not a group like your Christians are. I do not know what we all think about. I know there is some common ground in a love for common sense, and a distaste for pathetic religious groups whose only goals seem to be proliferating their own ideas while attempting to admonish others (Intelligent design, Dover Trials, etc). Atheism does not hate religion, it hates the idiots within it.

Why do people NEED to BELIEVE? Why is it so important? Atheists use common sense, logic (God's greatest gift - whether or not he exists) and basic knowledge in our favor. Chalking up every answer to "God" with 100% certainty is not only foolish, but incredibly dangerous. As Dawkins and Harris have said before, when you have that mentality, you have a tendency to not care about your life if you believe you will get another when you pass...

Theo asks, "Do you believe in a what or in a who or in a nothing?"Atheists believe in lots of things for which there is evidence. I believe in:life, myself, others, happiness, love, hate etc. I just don't happen to believe in your particular sky pixy. However if you could produce OBJECTIVE evidence that could change.
RasPesher (December 31, 1969 at 4:59 pm)
theo, you certainly repeat yourself when understess!
theothinkthank (December 31, 1969 at 4:59 pm)
RasPesher, you said "Theists have a choice of gods with a plethora of different moralities and a large number of different ways that they can interpret each gods moral code...subjective process". So? So what does an atheist have? Tell me what you have. Do you believe in a what or in a who or in a nothing? Do you NOT believe in a what or in a who or in a nothing? Tell me, and I will tell you if you are SUBJECTIVE or NOT. Tell me.
