When Reagan (who made the idea famous) complained about the excessive taxes he paid that made him reluctant to bother taking in more work, the highest tax bracket paid around 90% of their income in taxes. So he had a point. But nobody is proposing we go back to such a crazy progressive system. And if memory serves, we ARE officially in a recession now. The GDP shrank last quarter. I don't really know what the argument is about, but there ya go.

I know what the Laffer curve is, and I know that the way that American conservatives talk about it is silly because almost everyone (who doesn't host a talk radio show) agrees that our highest tax rates are currently on the left side of the curve. There's some disagreement about the rate you must reach before you "max out" the income your taxes generate, but most studies put that rate between 60-80%. This has nothing to do with anything Obama has proposed. His highest rates are less than 40%.

I happnen to think Obama is pretty smart and would make a decent president. I just believe Mccain would make a better one. If you would have just told them the truth that I agree with rather than be disrespectful like you have been the whole to me. I would not have said anything. Lastly, I would actually like to say I am pleased that you grew up and decided not to be disrespectful this time.
