To be honest, the original version got it right. All attempts to personalize it by singing too fast or slow, over enunciating or slurring fall short.He gets a few things right. Like his facial expressions. His face is blank, not crying (which is merely bad acting). This song works when the singer looks as if he just finished a long battle and is worn out, tired, empty. When they have nothing left and is just telling you like it is with no regards to whether you believe or sympathize with him.
