The two officers approaching him told him repeatedly to stop and show his hands. They didn't know until after that he had a stutter and may have tried to say something & that he spoke so little English that he didn't understand. When the first officer fell and his shots ricocheted, the other officer thought it was Diallo shooting so he emptied his clip. 41 shots were fired. Not all 41 hit Diallo. I'm not saying it was right,I just don't think either party was at fault. It was tragic nonetheless.

This song is much more subtle than just criticism of cops. It criticises society as whole.In Bruce' view, the cops are almost as much victims as the guy who got shot."Is it a gun? is it a knife? is it a wallet? This is your life. It ain't no secret, no secret my friend, you can get killed just for living in your American skin"Not only innocent civilians get shot. Also cops.
