Just wanted to say that this was really helpful. :DI just got my first sewing machine and a pattern and I didn't have a clue what a lot of the stuff on the patterns meant.Thank god for Youtube. xDDDThanks for the great video~

There are lots of reasons why you might not need interfacing, like if the fabric you chose has more weight/body than what was originally recommended for the pattern. It also depends on where the pattern suggests using interfacing.Don't forget there are different types of interfacing as well and you may need to preshrink it just like your fabric.

Is interfacing ever optional? I'm making a dress that has it listed on the back but my mother, who sews consistently, says it doesn't need it and won't explain why.

Thank you very much for giving me some info. Even though my mom sews, when it comes to following directions I go more with the directions. I am making a hooded cloak and my mom told me to cut the neck a certain way for all 4 pieces when we were only 2 do it 4 two pieces now we have a problem.

Thank you so much for your video! I was so perplexed when I looked at a pattern and it had triangles all over it!

Hi, TU1. It means cut out 2. The fabric is always doubled up (folded) unless otherwise indicated in the pattern directions. So, if you pin the pattern piece onto the folded fabric, you'll end up cutting out two. Thanks for checking out our videos!

does "2x" mean make two, or double up the fabric?

u can buy them from wal mart to any craft store, i bought mine from fabricland, but i believe that store is only found across Canada...

You can browse patterns at most fabric stores. Most manufacturers have catalogs with pictures of completed patterns along with the pattern numbers. They usually have the patterns in numerical order in big filing drawers. You can also find sources online. Thanks for watching!
