wow!!! Imagine: there's also motor neural implants successfully working with monkeys that control these arms. The chip decodes the info generated by the motor cortex (brain) and sends it to the arms. The monkey was able to reach for a banana when it saw one! So, within less than 20 years, people could control these arms with their brain as normal arms! I learned that while doing my neuroscience degree! science rocks!!

That's amazing!

So it was the defense department...not prayers or donations from churches or miracles from god. Just so we are clear, Science and engineering has done what every religion has failed to do. But, i wouldn't put it past some smarmy scummy pastor to say god gave back the missing limb by working through people....I'm willing to bet money that Dean Kamen, this philanthropist, genius, humanitarian, has no belief in a god.

Do you mean Jesse sullivan? It is true he moves his arm by "thinking" of it, but it goes via his chest muscle. His remaining arm nerves are attached to his chestmuscle. That muscle contracts or relaxes at certain places. Ofcourse the effect is the same as "brain control" but the brain has no "direct" link to the bionic arm. The arm moves by sensors which register muscle contractions of the chest. There are however some tests with a monkey where brain waves are registered by a chip in the brains.

already done.

now it's waiting for a brain controlled artificial arm

god.....just 5 years ago an arm powered by nerves seemed like it would be 500 years away. technology is amazing. |
